For the first loaf
The short list
for a weekend loaf.
Weigh the flour. Bake under a cheap lid you may already own. A banneton, a fancy lame, a premium pan, and a kit wait until a loaf has shown you the problem.
A scale first. The pretty kit can wait.
A scale Weigh the flour in grams.
A bowl One you already own.
A lid A pot you own, or a loaf pan.
A razor Held so it does not cut you.
If this is your first loaf
You do not need a kit. The kit is where a lame, a basket, and a pan show up before you have baked anything. Start with the scale and a lid. The same page is the whole path.
After you are already baking
A proofing basket, and a heavier pan for a different loaf shape, belong to that later bake. Not to the first one.
